『ウルトラマンZ』第1話において、ウルトラマンゼロが凶暴宇宙鮫ゲネガーグとの戦いに駆けつける場面を、別の視点から再構築した作品です。
ウルトラマンシリーズ60周年の歴史は、先輩が背中を見せ、後輩がそれを追いかけ、やがて次の世代へと受け継がれていく継承の連鎖によって支えられてきました。それは学校や職場、家族など、私たちが生きる社会にも共通する姿です。
ゼロとゼットの関係は、完成された理想の師弟像ではありません。不器用で、時に噛み合わない関係でありながらも、ゼットは憧れを抱き、ゼロの背中を追い続けます。本作では、その姿を通して、「背中を追うこと」を上下関係ではなく、憧れによって人と人が繋がる行為として描いています。
