Recently I learned the saying「鬼は外、福は内」from a friend. The concept of defeating malice in order to bring in good fortune is popular in Japan and also many other cultures around the world. It is an auspicious and meaningful theme that presents good fortune as something that needs to be fought for, rather than something that is passively received. Such a message resonates with me, so I really wanted to explore in an illustrated medium with my own touch. Deviating from the intuitive, I decided to capture this theme with a sense of raw action and violence with a mix of fantasy and modern designs.
