I started the initial draft with the intention of illustrating a scene that could create a sense of wonder and awe in the viewer’s mind, while making use of the large expansive canvas size. However, it was hard to conceptualize something that struck the right balance between being relatable and fantastical while allowing room for details. After several iterations, I decided to draw upon many architectural and cultural elements of modern and ancient Japan, uniting them under a clear and bright sky. In a way, I wanted to show through this my deep appreciation for the many kind people from Japan who have supported my work.
