この作品は、歌舞伎十八番の中でも華やかさと人気を誇る「助六由縁江戸桜」をモチーフに制作されたものである。助六の粋な佇まいは江戸文化の美意識を象徴し、その源流には“かぶき者”と呼ばれる、常識を逸脱し斬新な装いと振る舞いで人々を驚かせた存在があった。彼らが生み出した「かぶき踊り」は京の都で一世を風靡し、やがて伝統芸能・歌舞伎の礎となった。
一方、『PAC-MAN』もまた、当時主流だったシューティングゲーム一辺倒の常識を覆し、「食べる」というシンプルな行為を核に据えた革新的なゲームデザインで人々を魅了した。その斬新な動きは、アーケード黄金期を象徴する存在として今日まで受け継がれている。
本作は、歌舞伎の象徴である助六とアーケードゲームの象徴であるPAC-MAN重ね合わせることで、常識を越えて新たな表現を生み出す両者の精神を響き合わせた。鮮やかな色彩と大きな構図は舞台の迫力を映し出し、そこにパックマンの軽快なリズムが重なることで、文化を超えた共鳴が広がっている。
その世界は、舞台とゲームが交差する瞬間を描き出し、鑑賞者に新たな余韻を感じさせるだろう。
