昭和3年3月3日 台東区根岸生まれ
浅草で育ち、幼少の頃から漫画を描き始める。
終戦直後に「新夕刊」に漫画の投稿を始め、各出版社で連載を始める。
昭和22年に長新太、八島一夫、関根義人らと独立漫画党を結成。
昭和31年から連載した「仙人部落」は週刊アサヒ芸能(徳間書店)で、59年間（2681回）連載されることとなる。
昭和43年 文藝春秋漫画賞受賞
平成２年 紫綬褒章受賞
平成11年 勲四等旭日小綬賞受賞
勲四等旭日小綬賞受賞 平成27年 4月14日永眠
